A 59,000 square foot multipurpose arena and a new football stadium (Phelps Stadium) were part of an athletic master plan which was conceived and executed as a “Design Build” collaboration. The commission was granted after successfully winning a “Design Build” competition. The Harrison arena was designed to support the activities of the adjacent football stadium and athletic fields as well as the activities within the arena. The arena, which has two ice sheets, is constructed with insulated structural metal sandwich panels bearing on a reinforced concrete foundation. One sheet is adjustable from 94′ wide to 100′ (Olympic sheet width) and the other sheet is NHL & NCAA regulation size. The facility also includes; 4 home team rooms, 8 visiting team rooms, a training room, a manager’s office, 2 lobbies, a pro shop, two resurfacer rooms, an administrative office, a viewing area and many other amenities.
